ho ho ho

interesting facts abt santa:

No known species of reindeer can fly. But with 300,000 species of living organisms (mostly insects and bacteria) yet to be classified, flying reindeer - which only Santa has seen - cannot be ruled out.

There are two billion children in the world. But since Santa doesn't appear to handle Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist and Jewish children, his workload drops to only 378 million, or a mere 91.8 million homes averaging 3.5 children each, assuming that at least one has been good.

Thanks to time zones and the rotation of the earth, Santa's Christmas day lasts for 31 hours if he travels east to west, and visits 822.6 homes per second. This gives him 1/1000th of a second to park, race down the chimney, fill the stockings, distribute the remaining gifts under the tree, eat the snacks, climb up the chimney and into the sleigh and fly to the next house. Assuming the houses are all the same distance apart - 0.78 miles - the total trip will be 75.5 million miles, plus bathroom stops.

So our jolly old friend is travelling at 650 miles per second, or 3,000 times the speed of sound. For comparison, the fastest man-made vehicle, the Ulysses space probe saunters along at a poky 27.4 mps and the average reindeer runs at 15 mph.

The sleigh's payload adds another factor to the equation. Assuming that each child's gift weighs only 2 pounds, the sleigh is carrying 321,300 tons, plus Santa, who is always depicted as obese. On land, conventional reindeer can only haul 300 pounds, so if a flying reindeer can pull ten times as much, eight or nine will not cope. We now need 214 000 of them, which adds another 353 430 tons to the weight.

Here's where it gets juicy (literally)...

675,000 tons travelling at 650 miles per second creates massive air-resistance, like that of a space probe re-entering the atmosphere. Rudolph, who leads the pack, will face friction that generates 14.3 quintillion joules of energy. Per second! In fact he will explode instantaneously, exposing the next reindeer to the same experience. These explosions will cause deafening sonic booms as the whole team is vaporised in less than five thousandths of a second. Santa will also experience 17,500 G-forces, which will pin him to his seat with 4,315,000 pounds of pressure. This will unavoidably mean that the maiden flight of Santa's sleigh will also be his last.

Yes, there was a Santa, but now he's dead.

Merry xmas everyone, both overseas and local

san frans

i think its called city by the bay, ha, anyway personally i like the place alot, was realli homely, and down to earth kinda of feelings. it will get u started that pple started from a humble beginning and slowly work to its fortune, esp with the famous wharfs, pier 39, pier 41 and more. personally i realli like the bay area, the fishermen's wharf area.. the view was splendid. i took prob more than a couple of hundreds pics. the museums with other tourists venues are great for a total different look as compared to singapore.

just felt that that life is immensely evolving out there, being in singapore, in the little red dot does not mean u are comfortable and successful. i want a life where i choose where i wanna go, nt where i can go. and i wanna travel too, travel with my bestest friends.

internet time running out. billions of pics coming up

gd bye my dear friends

I.........
I.........
All my bags are packed
I'm ready to go
I'm standing here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
But the dawn is breakin'
This early morn
The taxi's waitin'
He's blowin' his horn
Already I'm so lonesome I could cry

[Chorus:]
So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe I hate to go

I.........
There's so many times I've let you down
So many times I've played around
I tell you now
They don't mean a thing
Every place I go
I think of you
Every song I sing
I sing for you
When I come back
I'll wear your wedding ring

[Chorus]

Now the time has come to leave you
One more time
Let me kiss you
Close your eyes
I'll be on my way
Dream about the days to come
When I won't have to leave alone
About the time when I don't have to say........

[Chorus]

Leaving on a jet plane
[repeat]

space needle

jus had dinner with chad, minch and qiuyi before heading up the space needle, gt a discount coupon for 2 tickets for the price of 1. heh.. so still a worthwhile trip up. was a final outing with chad before heading to the airport bound for sf on fri, yes, chad is fetching me there. nice guy. dats y i gonna treat him as a thank you meal. the view on top of the space needle was magnificent. its a super tall structure say abt 30storeys high, with a orbital view all ard and a orbiting restaurant jus at the level below the observation deck, similiar 1 of the sg premiere restaurant, issit swissotel. cant rem. read more abt the space needle, click here

i think many pple are right, time is the best medicine for everything. i believe i've recovered substantially. in a better position to appreciate wats going on once again. things are looking faded and less painful. all seems like jus a nightmare, slowly waking up and realising the reality. hw i wish it was realli a bad bad dream and i could jus brush it off after a gd cold shower. but, its not so. my innerself kept reminding me of the disappointment again. argh, i hate this. well, nothing beats having to converse face to face.. time n effort would probably mend all flaws. ya, i will try.

look at the plates we ate.. total almost 30 plates.. seh

on top of the space needle.. nice cool nite shot

another attempt, its so cold outside

minch n qiuyi, check out the wind blowing..

me and chad, haha chad is nt realli dat photogenic, trust me he look better on real life.. ha

if u can read that, it actually says, "DO NOT TAKE SANTA'S SEAT WHILE HES AWAY".. heh.. kinda innovative as a decor item

i hate to look like snow white.. bleah..

nba: sonics vs knicks

yup, finally managed to get all the pics uploaded. wow, sonics sux.. neinei, they were leading more half of the game, mid of 3rd quarters they lost it.. wTF!!!!$E@!! and their defences are bad too.. oh well.. but the atmosphere was gd, everyone was screaming n cheering, esp at the last 20sec of the last quarter where one of the sonics' PG tried this 3pointer for OT.. but "TTTTTTTTTAAAAAAAAAA".. didnt get it in.. so sad, was hoping for an OT. haha. come to think of it, i had a presentation that following day, ha, but come sep worry abt abt exam than to go nba match? c'mon.. think to wake up.. dun put studies as 1st priority over here, enjoy 1st. tok later.

the tics are rather inexpensive, for usd18 for a decent seat, under some subsidy by uw, at least i can still see the team players' faces.. heh, went taiwanese tim, overall was quite fun, didnt noe the way back but spotted someone familiar and stalked him all the way back hall safely. ;)

right outside Key Arena, most of these big venue arenas are sponsored by banks or big companies.. like safeco field (insurance), key arena by (key bank) etc.. nice, mayb nice time gt Yeoh Olympic Pool or Yeoh handball courts.. muaha.

yay, u need that 'Go sonics' , so ironic, none of the seattle sonic players come frm washington, infact the opponent team ny knicks had one from washington & uw as well, haha, the appaulse he garnered was more than the sonics home players.. heh. some sonics players even gt jeered!@

during the warming up, its a big arena, can doubled up as an ice hockey arena too, abit like sg indoor stadium, only newer and more high tec

me and tim

before the match, singing the national anthem, every game i've been to, everyone sang their anthem diligently..

yup, match started, no zoom used

one of the highlights of the match, u cant get to see this at espn, haha. the cheerleaders, they are KIANANG, defy all physics and all dance moves are so enticing and mesmorizing. for a while i tot the dances were better than the game itself. ;)_

leading 10pts at 1 time and still losing the game.. wtbfff..

one of the NY knicks attacking plays..

last quarter crowd pulling cheerleading moves. power sia.. all gt abs.

transformers

u guys remember the childhood cartoon, TRANSFORMERS, 'robots in disguise, then zziizzzuzzi (sound effects) .. then from car change to big moving robots and vice versa le.. i think over in sep, everyone behaves like a transformer, be it guy or ger. i've seen it enff. ;)

so many weird antics, funny notions and warp mentality have erupted since months ago. everyone is transforming to someone different from who he or she is when we first know them months ago.

-some transformed to porn addicts, 3 times per day is never enff and started subscribing to partyhardcore.com
-some transformed to sex addict, even having partner at home, started seeing other races and nationalities, all in the name of 'trying out'
-some transformed to drug addicts, trying to act like a walking chimney, try pot and watever f*ck shit are those, smell like decompose bahkuteh.. freaking stinky
-some transformed from humans to animals, eating every meal like they never eat
-some transformed from devoted religious pple to satanic subscribers and preached world orgies instead of world peace
-some transformed from underperformers in their parent univerisities to dean listers over here
-some transformed from dean listers in their parent universities to underperformers over here
-some transformed from liberal couples to possessive individuals
-some transformed from friendly individuals to scheming lechers
-some transformed from religious church goers to religious alcoholics
-some transformed from having 3 meals a day to 1 meal for 3 days
-some transformed from studying 20 hrs a way to studying 20 hrs a quarter
-some transformed from geeks to fashion slaves over here
-some transformed from gays to straight
-some transformed from straight to gays
-some transformed from straight to bi
-some transformed from being homesicked to sick of home
-some transformed from being coke lover to coffee lover, still caffeine addict nevertheless
-some transformed from being an irritant to a pest
-some transformed from a goody 2 shoes to a casanova to be
-some transformed from a spitter to a swallower

these are the people thats ard me, thats what to expect for sep, wonderful wonderful experience. had a final farewell dinner and hang out at keibun's place for the final time. i guess i will miss those guys sorely. saying goodbye is always to toughest part of life. i guess i gonna move on to another phase of my life. in fact, im quite looking forward to go back singapore, to start a whole new page of life with new mentality and experience. right now, i need to get back in shape, toned up, face up, straighten up, and lived up to my expectations.

standby, the FBT is back ;)

love all

sayonara

today's paper was ok, i darn sure i will pass it, dun realli care, besides it stood only abt 50/300, which accounts to abt 17% of the total grade.. and im pretty sure i have enff to get a pass grade to transfer my credits back to singapore.

oh well, right after the test, mako, the jap guy invited us to his apartment for a farewell-cum-post-exam dinner.. jus for me. ;'( so touched.. heh. suppse to be potluck event.. but nehneh, i dun haf cooking equipment la, so went to safeway (aka ntuc usa style) to get a bbq chicken. then todd came over and pick us up and drove us there. it was a really nice party while making new friends, talking, sharing ambition, discussing politics . ha, but all these were done while thinking im a MASTERS student, dammit i look so old =(

anyway, few interesting things that happened to me

scene1: i was talking the PhD research prof to be, robert, from taiwan... kept telling me hw fortunate singaporeans are, able to converse proficiently in mandarin and english. blah.. say hw smart lky is and how china and taiwan are the same?!? hhaha.. and later when he knew i was only an undergrad, he was like, 'wah.. you are so young, a long way more to go.. a bright prospect to u, (direct translation from mandarin) '.. his face was still with awe and i can sense a slight touch of jealously of my fair vibrant skin compared to his aging texture, say hes abt 50 odd yrs old..

scene2: i was talking to the other taiwanese pple, prob some masters students also, then 1 taiwanese lady started saying, you are some shuai ge. hahah.. then the other taiwanese ger starting agreeing and commenting,. caught them a few time sniggering at me.. hahaha.. pls la. im so fair and fat.. sigh.. and with my once again weed looking like hair, u ok anot?!? at least thats what i tot..

scene3: the party went on, drank some wine, beer.. then gt to leave as our only transport (todd) is leaving home.. so we took our leave, and was surprised when the taiwanese ladies took turn to take pictures with me. hahaha. .so farny.. and kept saying, nian qing you wei (young with a bright future) hahaha.. i cldnt stop luffing.. seriously, maybe these ladies (suspect mid or late 30s) are deprived of young chinese men in their lives. oh well, i obliged, took those fotos and prob they will regret coz im nt photogenic at all, look fat on most of the pic when im only fair... ;) HAHA.

in short, it was really bittersweet, mako and wife bid farewell to me and say they will visit me in singapore. i promised i wld be an excellent host if u guys come over. on another note, when i see mako and wife being so loving together, i firmly believed a woman is a pillar of support for a man and vice versa and is so true in the saying: 'behind every successful man is a woman', or the ah beng version beneath every happy man is a horny woman' ha.. whichever, it sorta re-established the fact that i want a partner to support me in my journey, nt one whom i had to worry and ponder regularly. thats the no.1 lesson i've learnt frm sep.

then i left the place with a heavy heart, tks mako for the wonderful hospitality and of coz the wonderful friendship. i will always remember u.

odaijini

sayonara mako-san

here are the moments captured:

L to R: mako's wife (kianang), taiwanese ger1, robert (PhD in the making) and taiwanese ger2

L to R: 2 american pple, jap nurse working in UW med. center as a nurse, her ang moh can fly..

L to R: jap ger1 (shes married, early 30s), u cant believe it right, shes so short, shorter than pear, chiaki archi masters student..

team 15: the blokes, me, tailing, mako and todd

remains

L to R: shweta, tailing and makoto

did our presentation today, was all abt project management, making sure how u can estimate the project, the cost managment, the project schedules and resource levelling.

oh well. share abit on our grp project and team members.

our team name: GLOBAL Co
team slogan: Quality has ABSOLUTELY NO borders (corny hor ;) )

team member 1: todd chambers
from: usa
nice patient mid20s young man, who took leave from sch for a while to start his own pte company, but only to find discontentment with partner and blow the partnership off. was a man of hands on experience, well versed with the bulding sequence and processes. i admired his patience esp dealing with all of us when our english is way below par.. theres a couple of times he nearly exploded but thats it, he tried to kept his cool and get our team together and get the job done. was the main man for the bid day and kept the whole project going and we managed to get into a 5th out of 15 position, dats pretty reasonable ya.

member 2: tai-ling, shen
from: taiwan
age 27, doing his masters on construction management. simple super nice person. im closest to him coz both of us can speak mandarin, heh. but thats also the problem, coz his eng is nt realli dat gd, i gt to be his interpreter. i do not mind at all, juz that i feel the language problem wld hinder him and his progress of learning. he acknowledged the fact and hes willing to change.. shared some opinions of other grp mates and we do bitch smtimes together too..

member3: shweta shahbag
from: india
late 20s indian lady whos also in the masters prg. generally a nice person BUT talks way too much and always have this unknowing tendency to self praise and talk big. sometimes cannt take it.. and couple of times shes quite rude esp when talking to the taiwanese.. coz of his inabilitiy to understand certain terms, she wld jus blatantly cut in and say 'i say AT LEAST 10 times explaining to u already, and u still dun understand it..' the poor taiwanese fella wld jus give a smile coz i assumed he doesnt understand a shit shes saying.. nt my personal favourite kind of grpmate.. cannt stand her at times too.

member4: makoto sakagami
from: tokyo, japan
late20s doing masters in construction mgmt too. a very strong and determined person who never fails to accomplised his tasks diligently. a very nice personal friend whom i share some of my personal life with. has a leching smile but ha, hes married, so no worries. he organized a farewell dinner jus for me. jap pple are sweet ya?

thats abt all. the final comments that the 3 professors that sat thru our presentation was.

prof 1: "i think by far, you are the most impressive grp that presented the building sequence with that visual aid.. the 3-D modelling was very informative.. "

prof 2: "i have to comment this grp is the most diligent and amazing grp i've seen.. i've seen u guys alot working extra after classes.. gd job.. and i would buy your idea on your building sequence.."

prof 3: "Gd job guys.. "

Wow. praises are worth millions.

i feel gd. 1 paper tmlo, gonna take some rest and exams gonna be over soon (next mon sgt)..

happy yet sad

catch up

it was a gd catching up wif my marists buddies, like yj, adrian (consider u marist bro) and shan (also consider u bro ;) ).. kinda missed the old aimless and retarded secondary sch/jc life .. ha. being a total pest and punking our life thru. i think as we grow older and mature, theres more responsibilities for us to handle. decision for us to make and path for us to walk. along this journey, companions are there to walk thru with us, and these people are friends. i think friends are the best creations other than msn/sms.. oh well. i yearn to be a better friend.

sniper

For most of us, the word "sniper" evokes some unsettling imagery -- a lone gunman, undetectable, on the hunt. And while military snipers are indeed elite shooters who hide, line up a target in their sights and pull the trigger, there is a lot more to it than that.

Photo courtesy Department of Defense Defense Visual Information CenterA Marine sniper emerges from the water.

When a sniper takes a shot, there are countless variables to consider before squeezing the trigger --- wind speed, wind direction, range, target movement, mirage, light source, temperature, barometric pressure, and that's just the beginning. The work that goes into getting a good position to take a shot is immense. That's why snipers always work in pairs. Surprised? Most people are.

These highly skilled marksmen are often perceived as lone assassins racking up "confirmed kills." In reality, true snipers work for the military and law enforcement agencies and are far more concerned with the number of lives they save than with the ones they take.

i am one, farking gd one. the most invaluable 2yr or so made me realised the power of observations. i think it is an innate nature of me to be extra cautious on hw i leave tracks or for that matter find out tracks of others. also extra sensitive to other people reaction, to hw the surrounding changes, smell, sight, sound.. of coz details of hw a sniper is groomed and selected cant be shared on a public blog or else sg govt/saf would come after my ass.

somehow or rather i always noe things happening ard me. like who n who gt attached together, like who and who gt scandals, like who n who broke off, like such stuff, its a thin line between kaypoh and observant, i pfer to attribute that to the latter. and so, this also means that i would noe more truth than it was brought to me. it pains to know pple are lying to u, friends, relatives, acquaintance, all pple infact.. they do so to protect themselves, its called white lies. the intention is gd, they wanna make the other party feel less afffected by the truth, but being me, i would noe the facts early.. and this makes me see things in a different light.

in the sep journey, ob skills has taught me to trust and distrust pple. see the many faces of human beings. witness the selfish nature of humans. and i have to say "my, its a goddamn worthwhile journey!"

im fking proud to be a sniper, for those wonderful memories, i thanked my buddy eugene, the 58th SNP course mates and my jr kim & chris. it taught me a life skill which is more menacing that a 7.62mm calibre round.

12days remaining in seattle.

fri night

on a friday night, im the only lonely soul in my rm, trying to finish my project, while the rest of the world are all having fun on their own. my rmmates are off again, probably to some gay parties, or straight ones, jus that they are nt ard on friday nights. my sg friends, both of them have their own companions to hang out with, happily enjoying every moment now. no time for me. my thai friend, busy mugging his essay and test. the jap guys and gers are probably out clubbing, im not doing that coz im not that rich anymore, need to conserve $ for bigger stuff.. i dun mind nuahing in the rm actually.

so im alone. in this sq rm.. a gd time to take a gd rest and think abt future again. i think i gt sensitive skin, some of my skin near my ears are flaking, think too dry or wat, itching too.. sianz. 14days exactly to leaving seattle. freaking fast.

sep is an eye opener. it cannt be explain in words. yes, go ahead guys and gers. be extra receptive to things happening to u. u wld be greatly surprised. it jus opens way too much options for u, in every aspect of life, career, education, partners, friends... everything... overwhelming.. it sorta transform u to someone else over here. muz the overseas air.

i've a bad stomach, everything i eat will somehw generate 5% gaseous products. no gd. im gg shower and zzz..

once again, tks to all those who asked abt me, im fine.

UBC

ya, finally gt the final lot of pics ready. feeling super low coz of probably pressure from the presentations but also the feeling of leaving new found friends. of coz nt to mention other factors too. oh well. life goes on.

anyway, ubc (univ of british columbia at vancouver, canada) is suppse to 1 of the most popular sep destination for students for a wide variety of reasons. dunno y, mayb becoz it sound prestigious and mayb the exchange rate lower? (1.2 as compared to usd1.6 against sgd).. anyway having gone to ubc, i can safely bet Univ of washington is a way better choice. definitely, primarily becoz paul allen (co-founder of microsoft) is like the some grand alumni of uw, so means gt $, so means better.. haha.. jus based on the 1st impression, ubc is dirty and cranky, the rds are cracked and rundown. but 1 thing for sure, their views are way better than uw. all mountains and super clouds. nice. and i think the place is larger than uw too. but i think dats it.. boo..

this is a building i find particularly interesting, enlarge it and see. haha, who say buddhist and christians cannt coexist together? ha, see..

arriving at UBC, this is the clock tower, suppes to be the most symbolic part.. err.. i duno. looks cranky. and abit seh-gak

this is the bomb, the whole glass building as a library. i think this is the most interesting/nice building in ubc thus far. i tot i dun haf friends in ubc, but i forgt actually iggy and eileen are both there.. and there are like 30-40odd sg students there now.. dats freaking alot..

the big arena, we arrived on a sat noon, so no1 there.. very nice weather tho.

haha, im standing on this structure that allows u to hear your own echo, its suppse to be some major feat in engineering & physics. and it WORKS!!!.. after looking at this pic, i realised i've become bleached.. im so fair.. tmd..

at the rose garden at UBC, err. didnt see any big roses tho.. but the view behind was incredible.. so big massive mountains.

all the singapore gers.. to marist whos reading this blog, the extreme ger on the R is actually Lixun (marist sec1b,2b) younger sister!! haha. small world sia..

before heading back to hotel, along one of the restuarants in UBC, some hk dim sum food, nt exactly that fantastic.

IM FARKING FAIR.. jialat

one of the virtues that lacking in the world.. humanity ya?

snowing

its snowing, all my 23 years of life, i finally catch a glimpse of the snow.. at at -2 deg cel.. and mayb colder.. i took a 20sec clip of snowing and will upload to some file hosting site once im done.. its quite a magnificent sight. but it looks abit like rain. ha. jus that the flow rate is slower. heard that if the snow is too heavy, classes would be cancelled. heh. i dunno man.

anyway, i think the snow came in the right time, just in time to lift my spirits.. when i think of snow i think of xmas, then new yr then chinese new yr.. slowly slowly all gd things. im getting a grip on myself, slowly but steadily. more and more i am more aware of wat i want and wat i dun wan. but i think all would be clarified when we see each other n talk.

i thanked all those who advised, encouraged, tagged and bitched on my comments/tag board. it shows that you guys/gers are concerned. i totally appreciate that, but i would feel better by jus keeping those comments to urself. words can smtimes be poison. i would rather me attaining enlightenment by myself. however, still a word of thanks to those who cared. hw fast is that, its 1dec 05 now, my last paper is 13dec. im leaving seattle on 16dec. then to san frans, las vegas then LA for my return flight. will most prob touch down to sg on 29dec (SGT) say 2pm... haha, i was thinking of making special appearance at ben's place for blk gathering. ha. but by blogging, it wouldnt be that much of a surprise anymore. see hw.

i went drinking yest night. a long time since i felt light-hearted. mayb becoz i've cool down since. i missed singapore food sorely..
