Hi Cheng Yow,

I will ask Annie to clarify about the course fees. It could be a one off thing that only applies to certain courses with guest lecturers, like you say.

Aiyah, we thought everyone knew that the USA is the most recalcitrant country in the world as far as converting to metric goes???

We do warn students that many items cost more in the USA than Singapore, but we advise them not to bring the usual A4 size paper because US students don't use A4. Second hand stuff in the US do tend to be good value for money, so thanks for your helpful URL. Didn't realise that a LAN cable was so costly, and I don't recall printer cartridges being USD70 - but I was there from 1997 to 2001... And in my time, Canon printers come with the printer cable, although it was only serial cable. Great to have these updates from you, and we'll certianly factor in to better guide students for the next pre-departure briefing.

By the way, Lingxiang from our office will be in UW for the Study Abroad Fair on 26 October, with Prof. Albert Teo from USP/BIZ. Be sure to meet up with them and help promote NUS during the fair! They may buy you coffee or ice cream after that... I'm copying Lingxiang on this series of e-mails so that she is aware of your issues and can further discuss with Annie if needed.

Thanks again for the tips, and glad to hear that you're taking time off to have fun!

Cheers,
Sharon
